Bug Hutch Ltd (“TOWNGRID”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our electricity intelligence platform at towngrid.io (the “Service”).
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, password (hashed), company name, and industry. If you sign up for Strategic Access, we also collect your full name, role title, region of focus, use case, and company size.
Payment Information
We use Stripe to process payments. We do not store your credit card number, CVC, or full card details on our servers. Stripe collects and processes payment data in accordance with their Privacy Policy. We store your Stripe customer ID to manage your subscription.
Usage Data
We collect information about how you use the Service, including pages visited, features used, alert preferences, threshold settings, and locations monitored. This helps us improve the platform and provide relevant intelligence.
Technical Data
We automatically collect your IP address, browser type, device information, and referring URL when you access the Service. This data is used for security, analytics, and service optimization.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Service Delivery: To provide electricity intelligence, forecasts, alerts, and analytics.
- Billing: To process subscriptions, invoices, and manage your account via Stripe.
- Communications: To send price spike alerts, account notifications, and service updates.
- Analytics: To understand usage patterns, improve features, and optimize performance.
- Security: To detect fraud, prevent abuse, and protect our users and infrastructure.
- Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.
3. Third-Party Services
We share data with the following third-party service providers, strictly for operating the Service:
- Stripe: Payment processing and subscription management.
- Supabase: Authentication, database hosting, and user management.
- Vercel: Application hosting and edge delivery.
- Resend: Transactional email delivery (alerts, contact form).
- US Energy Information Administration (EIA): We fetch publicly available electricity market data. No user data is shared with the EIA.
- NewsAPI: We fetch publicly available news articles. No user data is shared with NewsAPI.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.
5. Your Rights
All Users
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate personal data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data and account.
- Export: Request a machine-readable export of your data.
- Objection: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes.
GDPR (European Economic Area)
If you are in the EEA, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our lawful basis for processing is contractual necessity (to provide the Service) and legitimate interest (to improve the Service and communicate with you).
CCPA (California)

6. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted data at rest, secure authentication via Supabase, and PCI-compliant payment processing via Stripe. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Service and updating the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
